We all have experiences and skills that we have developed when it comes to self-publishing our work. Some areas we are good at on our own, some areas we need a little help. That’s where Kaleidoscope Press comes in.
When you join Kaleidoscope Press, you automatically get a publishing team. If you need a cover designed, we’ve got somebody who can help. If you need beta readers, we’re here to help. If you are ready to launch your book and need help promoting and marketing it, we’re standing by.
We’re not like traditional publishers. You maintain creative and executive control of your books. We help when you ask for it, we provide advice when you ask for it, and we don’t charge you anything for services. It’s free. All that we ask is that you actively participate and help other authors when they ask for help. It’s free. There are no membership fees, no subscriptions, no rejection letters, no scams, and no one telling you what you have to do or when you have to do it.
You may ask, “But, if it’s free, how do you make money?” The short answer is, we don’t. We’re not a business. We’re not a vanity press, or a “hybrid” publisher. We are a cooperative group of authors. With that said, when you choose to publish with us, we do offer your book for sale on our site at retail price. When a book is sold, we pay the print cost of the book and the shipping fees to the customer. You collect full royalties at the amount you set. The remaining funds are used to pay for services needed that our cooperative can’t fulfill. For example, an author needs a cover design and no one is available to help them. That author can then get a cover design done by a contractor, paid for by Kaleidoscope Press, provided there are adequate funds available. And, if we end up collecting more money than we need, the balance is distributed back to the cooperative members equally.
What kind of services are available?
Our current members have skills in cover design, interior formatting, proofreading, editing, print setup, and when it comes to marketing and promotion, we all work together. That means that when a new book is released by one of our authors, everybody participates in the promotion process. If you have a large social media following, you can share a post about the new release. If you have a large email list, you can include an “ad” for the new book in one of your email newsletters. All that we ask is that you make an effort to help promote other authors and the cooperative. Remember, the more we sell through the cooperative website, the more features and services we can fund and the greater payout we can distribute at the end of the year.
What if I don’t support a particular genre, book or author?
It’s to be expected that not every person is going to support every project. If you don’t support a particular project, for any reason, you are under no obligation to help with it. While it’s okay to skip projects here and there, you will need to assist actively in order to maintain your membership.
